When ESA discovers previously unknown activity on Venus - the planet actually appears to be cooling down - Schmidt asks the Russians for support. In the Kazakh steppe, Roscosmos personnel reactivate an aging Soviet probe in Venus orbit. But after only a short time, the deteriorating spacecraft shuts down for good. Was it deliberately destroyed? That's what a photograph suggests - one the ground station managed to reconstruct from the final data transmission - of Something that shouldn't be there at all.
